As a parent, hiring a nanny right for your children is so important, as you want them to have the right match that can help them grow.
With the year now coming to a close one mother has shared her experience of opting for a nanny from one of the most prestigious schools in the world.
As a first-time mum, choosing the perfect first nanny also felt like such an important task. Although first only having help from family while I was on maternity leave, as I looked to make a part-time to return to work, I knew I wanted someone I could completely rely on to take care of my son.
At such a crucial age, I wanted someone who could help him develop, not only take care of him, and could also give me some guidance and advice.
After beginning my search, I was able to find my current nanny, who studied at Norland College in the UK. Known for its incredible programme of education, and exceptional staff, it instantly felt like the right fit.
Now, nearly 10 months later, we couldn’t imagine life without her, especially for my son. During December, I’ve been able to reflect on some of the things I have learnt this year, with our nanny currently visiting family for Christmas.
The first, is how important it is to build a communicative relationship with your nanny, and continue to work on that even after the initial period of settling in.
How do you settle in your nanny?
At the beginning, I didn’t even know what questions to ask when hiring a nanny, so I really was a novice at the whole thing.
That’s why it was so beneficial to spend most of our time together, as I was able to take her through exactly how things are done in the home, and she could show me exactly how she could care for my son.
It’s an odd feeling having a stranger in your home if you have never done it before, so that initial time together was vital to understand each other.
The second, would be how to delegate tasks between myself and our nanny. At first, while I was at home, it was difficult to find a balance between when I should be taking charge of my son’s needs, and when she should. Again, the communication was a huge thing here, as it was a period of adapting for both parties.
Finally, I learnt more about sleep than I would have ever thought, with my nanny’s education and research into sleep cycles in children having such an impact on my son’s routine in comparison to those first few months of his life before we hired her.
Although it can be a more expensive option- the cost of hiring a full-time nanny is high-, for us it’s been exactly what we needed, and I’m looking forward to watching her help my son grow, develop, and thrive next year.
What is Norland College?
Norland College is a British higher education facility located in England, that was the first childcare training institution in the world.
First opened in 1892, the school is now partnered with a university, with students spending four years training as a nanny.
Receiving a complete and comprehensive training in everything to do with childcare, the graduates then go on to become some of the most sought-after nannies in the world.
Often travelling around the world with high profile families, Norland Nannies are even favoured by the British Royal Family, with the Prince and Princess of Wales having hired one to care for their three young children.
Providing a premium level of etiquette and childcare expertise, the Norland Nannies are regarded by most as the best in the world.
